Cup Winners!

With a long association as team kit sponsors for Kidlington Old Boys FC and with a number of employees as players (both past and present), D&T would like to congratulate the club on its recent victory in the Oxfordshire FA Charity Cup Final on 24th April. Interesting fact – the cup competition itself dates back to the late 1800s which makes it one of the oldest football competitions in the world!

Clean electricity for a sustainable future

Having had some involvement in providing the electrical expertise for the integration of photovoltaic technology into electrical schemes during 2009, Darke & Taylor has subsequently invested in the necessary training to enable the company to install and commission PV systems. Working in conjunction with its renewable and sustainable energy solutions partner – EnergyMyWay – D&T has now completed the electrical installation and commissioning for its first 10 PV installations. As an ISO 14001 company, this type of work is an ideal fit for the company’s commitment to continually improving environmental performance. ECA Management Training Pilot Success

D&T Contract Engineer Stuart McNaughton has just completed the Management Development Training Programme under a pilot run by ECA Education and Training. The programme is designed for employers to develop members of staff in particular areas to suit their business requirement, or develop an individual’s potential within the existing company structure. The training has been a great success and through the achievements of Stuart and his course colleagues, the ECA has now decided to roll out the programme nationally.

D&T Staff Raise £300 for Local Charity

Throughout 2009 on the last Friday of each month, D&T office staff took part in charity dress-down days, raising £300 in the process. The money has been donated to Helen & Douglas House, a registered charity providing respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family, where the emphasis is on living life to the full, even when that life may be short. 2009 – A Successful Year

As D&T looks back on 2009, a tough year for the construction and electrical contracting industries, it can do so with a real sense of achievement. Having secured work on a number of significant contracts, including a range of prestigious high end residential projects and the new Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, D&T increased turnover by over 15% on 2008. A big thank you to all the employees of the company who’s hard work and dedication has made 2009 a successful year.

Farewell to long serving staff member

Jan Jones, one of D&T’s longest serving staff members retires at the end of 2009, ending a career with the company that spans many years. Originally employed by Hill Upton & Co, Oxford’s first and oldest electrical engineering firm, Jan became an employee of Darke & Taylor when it acquired the shares of Hill Upton in 1972. Over the last four decades and during a period of significant growth, Jan has been a constant, with responsibility for the office and financial processes at D&T. Recent years have seen her working for the company on a part-time basis in a financial role, and also looking after the ever maturing and attractive garden at the front of the office. All at D&T wish Jan the very best for her retirement.
